| stands
for Masyarakat Islam Indonesia Toronto (Indonesian Muslim
Community in Toronto).
MIIT is an organization
which provides Indonesian Muslims in the GTA opportunities
to learn and study Islam through activities such as lectures,
discussions, Qur’an study circles. Moreover, it is
a forum for the Indonesian Muslim community throughout the
GTA to meet and strengthen the bonds of sisterhood and brotherhood.
MIIT consists of Muslims
with Indonesian citizenship or Muslims with ties to Indonesia
or Indonesians in the Toronto area, who gather monthly for
a halaqa (Islamic study circle). In our effort to elevate
our faith and strengthen our social bonds, in Ramadan we
also hold weekly (every Saturday) gatherings to break the
fast and pray together, and to listen to a spiritual sermon/speech.
Aside from Ramadan, we hold Eid prayers (Eid Fitr and Eid
Adha), followed by an Eid party.
Every year, we
hold a full-day lecture with visiting speakers like Ustadh
Shamsi Ali from Indonesian Masjid in New York, Ustadh Mohammad
Joban from Seattle, or students pursuing graduate studies
in Islamic Science in McGill University. We regularly invite
the imams or teachers from local masjids to be our speakers.
