MIIT consists of Muslims with
Indonesian citizenship or Muslims with ties to Indonesia or
Indonesians in Toronto area, who gather monthly for a halaqah
(Islamic study circle).
We hold our monthly halaqah,
usually on the second or third Saturday of the month. Aside
from weekly gatherings in Ramadan to break the fast and pray
together, and to listen to a spiritual sermon/speech, Eid prayers
(Eid Fitr and Eid Adha), every year we also hold a full-day
lecture with visiting speakers like Ustadh Shamsi Ali from Indonesian
Masjid in New York, Ustadh Mohammad Joban from Seattle, or grad-students
of McGill University. We regularly invite the imams or teachers
from local masjids to be our speakers. In the future, we are
planning to invite scholars from Indonesia.
In addition to the
routine programs mentioned, occasionally we hold: Qur’an
reading competition for children, celebration of Islamic holy
days, charity fair and other programs intended to spread the
goodness of Islam.
Until now, we still don’t have our own building or masjid,
so we usually hold our programs either in the premises of the
Indonesian Consulate General in Toronto, or the houses of some
of our members. For time and location of the next gathering,
please see here or email our contact person.
